IRS Notices leading to an IRS Wage Levy

The order of notices are usually consistent. The usual order for a 1040 filer is as follows:

IRS Notice CP-14 (1st notice): Notice of amount due, usually includes tax you owe, payments and credits, penalty for failure to pay proper estimated tax payment, failure to pay penalty and interest charges. In this case the balance due is $18,418.

IRS Notice CP-503 (Second reminder): Notice of amount due, usually includes tax you owe, payments and credits, penalty for failure to pay proper estimated tax payment, failure to pay penalty and interest charges.

In 35 days’ time the balance due grew at $4 dollars per day, the tax bill is accruing penalties and interest.

IRS Notice CP-504 (1st notice of intent to levy): Notice of amount due, usually includes tax you owe, payments and credits, penalty for failure to pay proper estimated tax payment, failure to pay penalty and interest charges. This notice usually means you have a 90 day window to resolve the IRS tax account.

In 105 days’ time the actual tax bill has ballooned an additional $420 dollar increase. Penalties and interest are compounded daily.
